THE MINT 400
March 27-30 2008
Yes, it's official!!! We have secured the domain for The Mint 400 and are getting the website underway (please be patient)... If anyone has any photos from any years they would like to see on the site, please send em along ... We are also going have a section for stories from racers from years gone by, as well as a host of other features for you, the racers/spectators, to be a part of...
SNORE is an organization that puts on races for racers by racers... Completely non-profit and made up solely of volunteers... We are bringing back The Mint 400 to give all of you who participated in it and the generations of these racers, as well as those new to the sport, an opportunity to experience this history-making off-road racing event, as well as preserve the historical significance of this race for future generations. Stay tuned for more updates... Please send any photos/correspondence to: TheMint400@aol.com

Jamie,
SNORE is bringing back the Mint 400 race or just putting together archives from days gone by? I attended more that 20 of them and was privelidged enough to compete in 2. It was undoubtedly my favorite race and have memories from the great times on Fremont St.

Hi! SNORE is bringing back the race itself... I have never attended one (wasn't involved in desert racing until about 3 years ago) but i tell ya, i am so fascinated by the mystique surrounding it - almost like a rite of passage if you will... I am trying to re-create - pick up where the last tech/contingency left off - the Fremont Street Tech & Contingency experience, as well as a few other really cool things that were implemented down there and were something everyone looked forward to and were the talk of the town :D

Hi,
I am fairly sure that contingency cannot be held on Fremont street anymore, not that one of the other side streets wouldn't work. The old course used to start were the speedway is now, head north right along the highway. Go up through the open desert to this really cool canyon out NW of Ute Rd. Then head back through a vicious rock garden......fun times. We were racing with names like Ted Nugent, Larry Wilcox(CHiPs) and Fee Waybill of the band "Tubes". Jim Connor would build special Nissan trucks for those guys. That was the "hayday" of offroad racing. Teams were running SCORE events and High Desert....the Mint was a special race that teams running either series would show up for.....no points if I recall.

way to go snore... I guess I have to dust off my original Mint 400 jacket for this one... Only other thing you guys need to work out is a deal with Jim Beam, so us collectors can add another bottle to our collection... If you get it worked out, I take a case...
congrats to Snore on what should be an awesome event...

We are going to hold it on Fremont Street just as it was way back when... You just can't bring any semi's or trailers down there... Vendors will only be able to set up 10x10 easy-up type displays...

I contacted Jim Bean Luis and the sales/marketing guy said if they were interested they would get back to me - never heard back... So, if anyone has another contact point, I will work that angle... Thanks Luis - this is really going to be a phenomenal event for all involved :D This will be my first Mint 400 ever lol...
