Vildosola Racing wins at home
Total domination at Laguna Salada this past weekend
Mexicali Baja California, October 1 2007. For immediate release.
In one of the most competitive races south of the border in past years, Vildosola Racing overcame some problems and won in total domination, this past weekend at “CODE Tecate Mexicana Logistics 300”, which was held the Laguna Salada just on the outskirts of Mexicali B.C.
Just for this event Vildosola Racing brought one of their weapons to compete and defend, their overall title from the previous year’s event, the Mexicana Logistics Trophy Truck with the legendary #4 on its sides, was the clear choice. The Mexicana Logistics 300 was the shake down for the upcoming Baja 1000. the green flag was dropped at 9:00 am sharp and one by one each of the 122 racers head down in the desert to be part of this race, at 9:02 AM Tavo Vildosola took the green flag in his 4th appereance this year behind the controls of Trophy Truck #4. cheered by more of than 12,000 spectators Vildosola started another great race.
Tavo passed all off his competitors before the first road crossing at Rm7, now he was to set the pace rest of the race. before the RM20 mark the Ford F-150, developed a transmission problem, Tavo stated: “before the 20 mile mark we start to feel some tranny slipping, the temperature started to climb and the second gear was unusable, I need to change my driving style while keeping a close eye on competition, we started to call our crew chief, Dave Clark and evaluate our options to make a correct decision.
We decided to take a easy pace, try and cool the transmission want we figured with and easy pace we could make the tranny live the decision was taked to not make a change, at the driver change we had a great pit in under 1 minute the truck was outfitted with new BFG tires, took 90 gallons of fuel, changed drivers and perform a quick check of the truck. After this Gus took, the driving duties of the family Trophy Truck with an 8 minute lead over his closest competitor and he continued to start the second lap, on the 118 miles course who CODE off road prepared for this race
Gus has to keep it cool and nurse the truck a little bit so he could still going on the race, somewhere around RM90, Gus hit some rocks and bent driveshaft, also he had to deal with lap traffic, he crossed the finish line win a time of3:38:57 and a speed average of 64.67 mph.
When Gus crossed the finish line, cheered by his family, friends and sponsors he commented: “we have a different race then we expected, the planning and preparation for this one from the shop until the race day was second to none, when we began to develop the tranny problem we started to think about solutions, luckily the trannny hold together all the way and we defended our 2006 title, this race was in memory of our dad and grandpa Gustavo A. Vildosola and our race consultant and long time friend Nye Frank who passed away a few weeks ago.
The next event for Vildosola Racing will be the grand daddy of off road races, the SCORE TECATE Baja 1000 on his 40th anniversary, this one will be a long event starting on Ensenada on Nov 12 and finishing at Cabo San Lucas on November 15, both vehicles will be in action, the TT#4 looking for the overall victory and the Baja Protruck #200 who its now leading the points of the Protruck series and they going to try to secure the class championship at this race.
